Do New Year Resolutions Bring Solutions?

Every year, around this time, millions of people make their famous New Year's Resolutions...
I've never really been one to make these strange promises to myself but instead do all the things throughout the year that I want to do, or decide to do.
I guess mine can be seen as "all around the year resolutions" - some are successful and others not...

However this year I have made a New Year Resolution: I have promised myself that I will join a gym and get the hard body that I crave. I've already seen the perfect abs and pecs that I want in a glossy magazine ;) haha!
Or will that idea be forgotten in mid-January when I could decide to just do more walking and running instead?! Who knows! The life of a New Year Resolution is remarkably short!

But my important questions are:
When is a resolution truly resolved? Does anybody really see them through to the end and succeed with all their personal promises?
Does a resolution truly bring solution?

I stand by and watch as friends and family make these resolutions and after one or two months they are cast aside, forgotten or just given up as being too boring.
So does anybody really change in the New Year? or is it all false hope?
Those diets that are started, hobbies that begin, habits given up, new languages to learn, vices thrown away...
Is it all just a waste of time? Or are there really lots of strong-willed people out there with New Year Resolution success stories that are life-changing?

I'd be very interested to hear everyone's resolutions for this year, or lack of them....

In the meantime I'd like to take this opportunity to wish a very Happy New Year to all my dear blogging friends!
May 2009 be a complete success story for each and every one of you!!
with peace, health, wealth, love, luck, inner-tranquility and above all else lots of happiness!!

Let the fireworks begin!!!!!!!!
and lets start planning our 2009 blog posts now!!! - Oops! Was that a New Year Resolution?!!

o.k. i made two or three 'lifestyle changes' instead of resolutions last year. it was to declutter mind, body, and home. i manage to only lose 10 or so pounds, but i hear that weight has affect on clutter in home. vice versa? anyways, i'm doing a total 'do-over' starting jan. 1st. a fellow blogger and i have started a weight loss blog. would love if you joined us. http://oneweighatatime.com

i tried to be a better blogger this year, but that didn't happen too much. i've been lazy and couldn't be arsed w creating worthy content. i also wanted to start reading 'intelligent' books. no luck there either. *ahem**twilight**ahem* lol

happy new year, my friend! :)

People set their expectations too high and as such have difficulty keeping on track. Small resoloutions that can be achieved bit by bit are best and best not made at New Year.

Good luck Donnie with your task to get fit! I hope you are very happy on 2009. X

Hi ciara,
That's interesting! I'd never heard of decluttering mind, body and home before, and the connection between weight and clutter in the home... that makes sense!!
I'll take a lok at that site however I don't have any problem with my weight, I just want to tone up...
Happy New Year dear friend! X

Hi MOB,
I agree with you that people set their expectations too high... most resolutions I hear are so extreme!
All the very best for you in 2009 MOB! may it be a year to remember!! X

Hi Donnie -

Oh I have so many, but I hesitate to call them resolutions. I hate disappointing myself. But in the spirit of the season, here is what I am aiming for:

1) Reduce one of my meds which has caused some weight gain (with my doctor's knowledge, of course)

2) Begin using my yoga ball and videos (that got sidetracked because I have what looks to be a long-term return to the nest by one of my fledglings)

3) Get the book proposal out (this one is kicking my butt)

4) Cut out most of the sweets (I know better than to try to go cold turkey, though!)

All of the other "resolutions" that have to do with my career, etc., have already been put into place. Lots going on in 2009 for me, my friend. Can't wait to get started!

peace and hugs - D
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Just found you over at Crystal Jigsaw - thought I'd send you good wishes and good luck in your quest for the abs and pecs you crave - I too have craved these for many years and never got round to it, then crohn's disease scuppered all hope of ever doing so.

Glad I found your very interesting blog.

Best wishes for the coming year.

Well, my new post is entitled "Down with Resolutions". Does that give a clue to my viewpoint?
