6 Things You Don't Know About Me

I got this idea from the recent Blog entry of "gonebacksouth" where she wrote 6 things about herself that people don't know, so here goes:

6 Things revealed about me...

1 - I "migrated" permanently to Brasil from the U.K. 10 years ago and did it all for love.

2 - I have written my own book of poetry that I am desperate to get published in any way.

3 - I used to be enclosed in an office, now I am free on a beach.

4 - I am bilingual (English and Portuguese)

5 - I am a classic Taurus: stubborn, dedicated, love comfort, being spoilt, great food and wine.

6 - I have 3 "daughters" (my dogs) who I spoil unashamedly: "Bridget Jones" a yellow Labrador, "Lucy Liu" a black crossbreed, and "Minnie Osbourne" a tiny black and tan micro pinscher.

Your life is an occasion, rise to it

Last night I watched a great little film on Dvd starring Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman called "Mr.Magorium's Wonder Emporium"
It's a family film which is full of magic, life messages and inspiration for people of all ages.


At one point in the film I had to pause it, run to get my notepad and pen and write down the heartfelt inspirational words that I had just heard, which affected me immensely in just a few seconds...
Hoffman's character says to Portman's: "Your life is an occasion, rise to it"


I just had to write this short post here today to share these words with anyone who hasn't yet seen this film, they are powerful words indeed.
Sometimes we are so busy with all the mundane things going on in our lives that we forget to stop, take a breath, tell loved ones how much they mean to us and do everything we've always wanted to do.

"A New Tomorrow" - Original Poetry By Me

While the kettle boils,

Take some time to think,

Don't be sad and lonesome,

Whilst leaning by the sink.

Life is what we make it,

So smile the whole day through,

Take the moments in your life,

Find peace inside of you.

Treasure all the minutes,

And don't resort to sorrow,

Soon the kettle's boiling,

And there's light for a new tomorrow.

P.S. I Love You

Last week I watched a truly wonderful romantic comedy on Dvd called "P.S. I Love You"

It stars Hilary Swank, Gerard Butler, Kathy Bates, Lisa Kudrow, Gina Gershon and Harry Connick Jr.

Swank plays a young widow who discovers that her Husband has left her 10 letters that start arriving to her after his funeral in lots of unexpected ways, giving hints to her such as be a disco diva, sing karaoke, go on holiday with your girlfriends, e.t.c... allowing her to work through her pain and grief and get on with her life.

However her Mother (Kathy Bates) and her friends (Lisa Kudrow & Gina Gerson) believe that the letters are stopping her from moving on with her life and keeping her in the past always thinking about her Husband as if he is still here and waiting for his letters to arrive... after all what will she do once his final letter has got to her?

I won't say anything else here about the plot, all I will say is rent or buy this Dvd now!

This is the best romantic comedy that I have seen in years, it portrays relationships very truthfully and is very funny and yet very sad at the same time and is the kind of film that appeals to men and women, i.e: it's not just a "chick flick" :)

I laughed, I cried, I found reality in all the circumstances, all the actors were wonderful (so many great actors in this film!) and almost one week later I am ready to watch it all over again!

Best film of the year so far!!

"I Keep On Smiling" - Original Poetry By Me

Smiling on the outside,

But crying deep within,
My tears are just like acid drops,
They're burning off my skin.


Waiting, wondering, longing,
Time seems to go so slow,
But still I keep on smiling,
Just to let you know...


You were my piece of heaven,
My sunshine in the sky,
But now you're all but distant,
And forever I'll ask why?


So still I keep on smiling,
And you're with me every day,
My tears I keep in buckets,
And they never spill away.

Birthday Post

For quite a few days I have been sitting and wondering what I can write here, my mind has been blank and without inspiration to scribe anything witty or of which could be of any interest to anyone...

Then came my Birthday today and with it returned my inspiration and willingness to write!

This child (hahaha!) that was born in London during the "Summer of Love" is celebrating one more birthday today! (Is it my imagination or do they seem to come around much more often once we get past the age of 30?!)

So I found myself looking in the mirror this morning, feeling sorry for myself and trying to detect any signs that I am one year older, seeing if I need to drag myself to the gym and looking for any ageing that people say us men become "distinguished" with... and I am happy to say that I couldn't see any difference from a year ago, apart from one more change of hairstyle... but then maybe I need glasses! haha

No, from now on I've decided to "freeze" my Birthday in my mind, body and spirit and celebrate it as if I am 30 every year because I still feel like I'm a great big kid! and I'm not afraid to say it!! :)
